New Jersey State Budget 2008

Here’s a link to New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine’s budget address and a link to the proposed 2008 state budget.

Corzine’s 2008 budget calls for a 7.2 increase in spending, from $31.061billion in 2007 to $33.292 billion for 2008.

Corzine estimates state revenue from taxes and fess will generate $31.952 billion in 2008 - $1.34 billion less than his proposed spending for the year. This budget gap is to be financed with $665 million from the non-recurring use of the dedicated FY 2007 half penny from the sales tax increase and a $670 million non-recurring surplus as a result of stronger than anticipated FY 2007 revenues.

Corzine estimates a $2.5 billion budget deficit for 2009 - with state spending of $35.4 billion and revenues of $32.9 billion.

Why is the State allowed to increase spending by 7.2% when they cap the municipalities at 4%?

to pay for the increase of 14,000 new employees in the executive branch... and for stem cell research and corrupt school districts... and for lucrative pensions and free health care for state employees, teachers and their families. That about covers it.

HEALTH CARE IS NOT FREE IT COMES FROM HARD EARNED MONEY. HOWEVER, THE STATE CLAIMS TO BE IN SUCH A DEFICIT RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE STATE EMPLOYEES WORKING THEIR ASS OFF FOR MINIMAL PAY , NO INSURAMCE, NO PROMOTIONS OR RACES, ONLY BROKEN PROMISES US CITIZENS HAVE TO SUFFER WHILE THE GOVERNMENT BECOMES LUCRATIVE OUT OF OUR HARD EARNED MONEY, SOON THEY WILL BE MONITORING OUR FOOT STEPS MIGHT AS WELL THEY MONITOR OUR FAMILIES EXPENSE THE GOVERNMENT DOESNT HELP THEY JUST MESS UP

The previous two comments just show why democracy is such a failure in this country.

7.2% increase, wow fiscal responsibility! Democrats have ruined your state and I love it. Keep up the great work Jersey as your state will hit junk bond rating soon.

Why is it that state workers all receive pensions and benefits far above the average for similar private sector work? Only one in five private sector employees receives an employer funded pension the rest have to fund their own retirements w/401K or IRA's. If its good enough for private sector taxpayers it should be good enough ofr the state workers.
