Election Day Odds and Ends
We’ve long suspected a fair number of voters in New Jersey really don’t care about political corruption. This quote from the New York Times Empire Zone election blog explains the rationalization of these voters:
Then there are New Jersey voters who will vote for a Democrat no matter what:
Karen O’Leary, 45, said that she had no concerns about Mr. Menendez’s ethics - which Mr. Kean made a central part of his campaign.Ms. O’Leary also falls into another unfortunate voter category - the totally misinformed. Tom Kean is pro-choice and supports federal funding for stem cell research.
“You know what?” she said. “I don’t even care. He stands for stem cell research, he’s for a woman’s right to choose. I don’t care if he takes money under the table. Those other things are more important.”
Then there are New Jersey voters who will vote for a Democrat no matter what:

Upon entering the voting booth, individuals have encountered machines that are pre-set to vote for Menendez, causing serious confusion. In some instances, the voter has been unable to de-select the pre-set Menendez vote using the touch screen.It’s tough being a Republican in New Jersey.

It's the air, it makes the people really stupid. No other explanation for the

Worse than reading comments from people that say corruption is not as important in an elected official as an abortion stance, etc. is actually talking to them - no amount of rationale works. One can actually easily win a civil debate with them, but it won't change their view one bit. those people are scary....and in that way no different than the fanatics they like to rail against
Representing innuendo and misrepresentations as if they were truth, does not make them true.

Try being a conservative for 40 odd years. Well the kids are grown and we're checking out houses out of state each weekend, so it won't be long for us either.
I'm a gunny and Jersey has become a place nearly impossible to enjoy the sport.
It won't truly have success, I believe this way.
