Today,
Assembly Democrats rejected Corzineās plan to increse the sales tax from 6 to 7% with 15 supporting the hike and 34 opposed.
PoliticsNJ will need to correct their tally board. The website currently shows 22 siding with Corzine, 26 supporting Roberts and one on the bubble.
The quote of the day goes to Joe Donnelly, the spokesman for Assembly Democrats. After criticism from Republicans faulting Democrats for not leading and passing a budget, Donnelly accused Republicans of partisan carping instead of helping to resolve the situation.
This, on the Sunday Democrats on the Assembly Budget Committee met behind closed doors, and did not allow Republicans in.

Not to worry. The democrats know their friends in the media will make sure the republicans garner a good portion of the blame for the democrats failure to reach a compromise on the budget.
Right on anon.

Actually, the 15-vote tally was not for Corzine's plan, but for the Senate's (ie Codey's) compromise of using half the revenues from the 1% increase in the sales tax towards property tax relief.
It just shows there's little room for compromise here, since the compromise garnered less votes than either Roberts' or Corzine's plan.
This shut down of the State of NJ is hurting workers who live from paycheck to paycheck. 1% rise in sales tax is not a big deal, most people do not care if we raise sales tax 1%, this will be additional revenue for the State of NJ. This needs to stop and everyone must agree on something and come to a resoluation to stop this State Shut down. The only one you are hurting are the poor people, children and elderly, come to an agreement now. Most people do not have millions of dollars laying around as some people do in the event they are not working and count on health insurance and a pay check to pay there bills on a regular basis.
