Great Moments in Liberal Economics
"The purchasing power of minimum wage is at an historic low. Coupled with the relatively high cost of living in New Jersey, the state's lower income workers are being pushed to the brink. Acting Governor [Richard] Codey believes all New Jerseyans deserve the fair proposition that an honest day's work should garner a living wage. Moreover, there is strong evidence that increasing the minimum wage also significantly improves quality of life--reducing hunger and increasing healthcare."--"State of the State Highlights," New Jersey government Web site, Jan. 11
"Several senior citizens working in non-profit and public organizations in Salem, Cumberland and Gloucester counties will face layoffs in December. Chris Davenport, executive director of Salem Main Street program, said the federally funded non-profit company Experience Works, which assists low-income senior citizens with job training and placement, has been forced to lay off seniors due to the increase in minimum wage."--Today's Sunbeam (Salem, N.J.), Nov. 17

Gee terry, why don't you get your facts from somebody besides Move on.org and the DNC.
And this country has always had a large middle class. ALWAYS. You can't find a time when this country didn't.
And back up your assertion that no jobs have been created. 5% unemployement and some how there are no jobs.
Obviously you don't remember Jimmy Carter's presidency and 9% unemployment.
Terryp,
You are being disingenuous. Plenty of jobs have been created since Bush pulled the country out of the Clinton recession. Look it up.
Clinton recession?
HA!
That is a beauty!
Last I checked CLinton was the only president who had balanced the budget EVER. The Economy grew at record rates during his presidency.

Where are you, the stock market isn't "DOING WELL". The poverty level has gone up leaving many more people below this line. You must be looking through the rose colored glasses supplied by our current president. With high paying jobs by the boat load being exported daily, and being replaced with your newly created lower paying jobs with few or no benefits where does a person go to take advantage of the promis we as a country make of anequl oppurtunity for all...
Actually, the budget was balanced a couple of times under Nixon, and if memory serves, Eisenhower's administration ran in the black once.
