Corzine Pressured to Announce Who He'll Appoint
Should Sen. Jon Corzine (D-NJ) win the New Jersey gubernatorial race later this year, he will have the opportunity to appoint his replacement in the Senate. The two leading candidates, according to the Lehigh Valley Express-Times, are Reps. Robert Andrews (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ). "Both were first elected to Congress in the early 1990s and hold seemingly safe grasps on re-election."Meanwhile, a group of Hispanic reporters are demanding that Corzine "give them a conclusive answer" on whether he’ll appoint Menendez, the Jersey Journal reports. If not, the group pledges to announce their support for Republican candidate Doug Forrester.
McGreevey Rebuilds
"A year after his life unraveled in scandal, former New Jersey governor James McGreevey lives in self-imposed exile, avoiding the limelight he spent a career seeking," the AP reports. "He left office in November and mostly disappeared from view. As citizen McGreevey, he has stayed silent. He did not respond to requests for comment for this story."
